Good appraisal and find.. hope with all of that experience in the deal they thought to look for that 428 Block around the area. Clearly the owner new about cars. Seized up or bad piston might be close by.

Now I really want to see the restoration process and the finished results and Final subtotal investment price including all parts materials labor repair paint everything plus what he purchased the car for then what the auction price might be for this puppy once she's been restored to Glory?

I think every car Enthusiast dreams of this happening to them where some long-lost relative distant relatives who owns some Old Farm in the middle of nowhere passed away leaving everything to you and when you finally show up take a look around going to a garage filled with a bunch of worthless junk but then sitting in a dark forgotten corner you see the outline of some old car under layers of neglect and dust. At first you think it's worthless until some faded lettering that says SH catches your eye. As you begin to rub away all the grime the rest of the letters begin to form the word Shelby and your heart starts to pound in your chest as you dare to believe what is being revealed and as you rapidly rub away the rest of the Grime and Shine the Light it says Shelby GT500. for a moment you stand there staring slack-jawed in disbelief ane shock and before you even realize its happening you are jumping up and down pumping your fists and screaming for joy. How many people can see that they had that moment in their lives if not for a Shelby GT500 but any legendary classic sports car of their dreams?

and I'm sure many people have had moments like this only to then have their dreams crushed when they found out later it wasn't authentic. But you still will always remember how you felt in that moment of Triumphant exuberant Joy. Forget about the cost to restore it forget about all the legal isms and all the work it will take. Just that moment in time which will be etched in your memory forever! I've never experienced that but I'm sure many have and I would love to hear their story!

Paying 65 that they probably have to invest another 60-80k in (if that) to end up with a car easily worth over 200k sounds like a good deal to me.

This was a great find for Bob and Preston, They are both class acts in business and friendship and this car will get restored, driven and shown. The only way he would treat the widow and her family is with complete respect from one car guy to another.

Reading the posts I can't believe the naivity. Quite a few are wiser though. I really dislike tight arse opportunistic pricks. And don't worry, I've seen plenty before when it comes to cars. If they were after something of mine like this, I'd make them pay with their kneecaps.

By the time you get done paying for 4000 dollar floor mats and 2000 dollar fan shrouds, how much does it cost to restore something like that? I mean a bunch of it is perfectly salvageable, but A LOT of stuff in that needs to be replaced too and doesn't that ruin the authenticity of it?

that is the most complete factory original car I have ever seen it most likely was bought by a vietnam bound teenager that never came back and the family never had the heart to use it . it even has the original paper tags that disappear when the car is driven it's like he drove it home and probably used it for a month before he left and was one of the unlucky ones. a lot of the 60's barn finds are there cars from lost generation . I was 12 when the war ended and knew a few of them that never came back and a few that did but would never talk about it.

So much of reality TV is not real, but this channel is real. I don't make stuff up. Truth is stranger than fiction, but TV shows don't want to spend the money to go out and beat the bushes for a show where reality follows the story line that satisfies viewers. So, they just make up the story to follow that storyline, and people just fall for it because that's what most viewers WANT to believe.

Secondly, I wouldn't have even washed the dirt off. I would have taken it to Barrett-Jackson just as you found it. Like you said, it's only original once. I don't care how much you paid for it, you could have doubled or tripled or money. I almost threw up when I saw y'all washing it !....lol.....Tom

Not many barns left in the country sadly. farmers are dropping off today unfortunately. Not going to be many more funds in this country anymore. That's why this find was so unbelievable. I'm def a lucky guy. I should have it ready to go by next month. can't wait to get it on the road.

Since You are going to make this a driver, Dont put a 428 in it. This is likely a side oiler block and if OK, it likely also has the forged 427 crank in it. Keep the block, put a 428 crank in it and make it a stroker. The 428 heads are "OK" but I would use medium riser heads for maximum performance. I did just this to my Galaxie 40 years ago. You can get away with 93 pump gas. When you go to a meet and people see the 427 cross bolts highlighted, they know you have Ford's premier engine. The 428 was just a cheap way to make HP back in the late 60s because 427s were so expensive to make. Keep the 427, trust me. You will make about 456 cubic inches and redline about 5,800-6,000 Rpm. Use a 325 gear and it will be a monster.
