Will it Freeze Dry? - COCONUT CREAM PIE - in a Harvest Right home Freeze Dryer

  • We freeze dried a Coconut Cream Pie from Shari's Cafe & Pies.
We froze the pie overnight, and then quartered it before cutting it into 1/2" thick slices for the freeze dryer. It was very hard to cut, but by the time I got to the last quarter it softened up and was much easier to cut. I would recommend letting it thaw for 1/2 hour before you try to slice it.

We ran it through a standard freeze dry cycle and it turned out great! The main pie section was very crunchy just like when you freeze dry ice cream. The topping was delicate and was so good we may do a whole batch of just whipped cream!

One thing to note is that the topping wants to break away from the main pie filling, so be sure to have a plate ready to catch the broken goodness.

i've freeze dried my salsa... fire roasted tomatillo, jalapeno, cerrano and chilie passilla, garlic and onion a little bit of oregano, salt it came out really well. it does turn to powder easily, but just add water and it's salsa!

I liked this channel back when you did the product reviews of MREs and the like, but it seems lately that the channel has become one long extended commercial for the Harvest Right Home Freeze Dryer.

The problem is that there are no new MRE items being released right now. We expect that to change when contracts complete this summer. Then we hope the flood gates will open. We have tried a few "super secret" MRE items but we are under a "gag order" of sort until the manufacturer gives us the OK. We really don't have many MRE items right now that we haven't already done a review on. but in a few weeks we should 3 HDR entrees we have never done before, so stay tuned.

Oh, I completely understand. And I'm not gonna stamp my feet and throw a tantrum over the content (It is free, afterall). It's just not what I'm interested in, and it seems like they switched to doing just "Will it freeze" videos.
