  • Hong Kong has seen another weekend of fiery clashes between pro-democracy protesters and police. Sunday's protests began peacefully with demonstrators taking over a shopping mall. But then protesters sang the anthem "Glory to Hong Kong" and then began trampling on and defacing the Chinese flag. One group vandalized a nearby subway station and setting barricades ablaze. Riot police responded with tear gas and made multiple arrests. But how much support do the protesters still have among their Hong Kong neighbors? DW's Mathias Bölinger reports from Hong Kong.

Mr Wang should stand for trial as he and his rioters are collectively responsible for the death of the older man and the victim who was set on fire . He is inhuman for refusing to condemn the extreme violence conducted by these rioters. Shame on him! He is just an political opportunist !

Hong Kong people will not support anyone who singing “Glory to Hong Kong” but in fact destroying the glory of Hong Kong. They are just pretending to be peaceful. After singing, they will turn into rioters and block all the roads, destroy shops and destroy MTR stations. Rioters will all be arrested and put to jail. Hong Kong people support police.

CHINA'S RUTHLESS REGIME IS THE GREATEST DANGER TO FREEDOM IN THE WORLD. WESTERN CAPITALISTS CREATED THIS MONSTER, AND NOW THIS RUTHLESS REGIME IS SPREADING ITS BRUTHAL AND CRIMINAL SYSTEM TO OTHER DICTATORS AROUND THE WORLD. CHINA AND RUSSIA ARE TRYING TO DESTROY DEMOCRACY IN WESTERN WORLD, AND CAPITALIST DOESN’T MIND, BECAUSE FOR THEM CHINA'S SYSTEM IS BETTER THAN WESTERN DEMOCRACIES.

I think China CCP has waited long enough for the world to see and now it's justifiable for her to declare martial law in Hong Kong and let the "six four Tian An Meng" incident repeats itself in Hong Kong. Only military force without mercy can stop this nonsense of the minority hong kong protesters. They have gone too far and are destroying the HK economy and thus all hong kong people now.

IMO, it is a kind of blessing in disguise ..... this "hidden time bomb" is exploding now .... HK is undergoing through a self- purification process..... the many social contradictions and issues need to be addressed and resolved in the next 28 years before Yr 2047 when the People's Central Govt takes over (as expressed in the Sino-British Joint Declaration 1984 and the Basic Law)
In our computer information technology age where there is speedy coordination and connectivity, who can ever tell that by that time China herself may have election of leaders by internet voting.... involving 100% eligible voters....( so much better than, say, USA, where only 45% eligible voters are willing to vote)

It is possible that the police themselves ask them to wear masks, because they don't want to arrest them. Revealed face = must arrest.

This BS is caused by CCP meddling in HK, and the HK police is being shoved forward to clean it up.
I suspect they too know they are just being used as toilet paper by CCP.

No one will take responsibility. China will inherit Hongkong the way it's meant for them: a small fishing village of only 1000 people.

Book sellers who sold books that the CCP didn’t like were kidnapped and threatened, and their bookstores shut down. Civilians going home on the subway are stormed and indiscriminately beat by police. Medics are blocked by the police from entering areas where civilians are suffering possibly fatal head injuries. An old man in a hospital was abused and tortured.

Blaming the Police for using excessive force is similar to crooked theory blaming rape victims for wearing sexy dresses so to get sympathy and support for the rapists to justify the rape. Public attention is then drawn onto the victim hoping that she broke down under pressure and the rapists escape. Police powers to use force is granted by the law and there are various governance measures including compliant channels. I am still waiting for the “Shot in Eye” girl and families and friends of the supposed dead persons in Prince Edward station to come forward. Also, which law grant the rioters powers to use violent force? Who governs their violence and vandalism?
