From a lifelong New Yorker, here's the problem with New York City in general: NYC is a very cosmopolitan city that is surrounded by ghettos; which means it's filled with ghetto people. These people do not care about bettering anything, but rather destroy things due to their ignorance and incapacity for self-control. So why fix anything while these people are destroying it from one side?

Our subway system is literally based on old 60’s infrastructure, and you wonder why there’s so many signal delays and other problems. Modern subway systems like the ones seen in Asia and Europe would be great for handling the massive population of our city. Not to forget that as the MTA fare increases, the quality of service stays the same or actually decreases. There’s so much traffic here and the trains can’t even save you, so it’s no wonder why so many people just jump the turnstiles.

The trains are a bit old but that's not the main problem. It's the people. Go to any other developed country and the subways are clean, orderly and safe because of the people. Americans can't have nice things because they'll just destroy it.

This is an old story. Not of the M.T.A. But of the Federal authorities stealing from Social Security taxes to offset tax reductions for people who are not me, and to pay for things that cannot be afforded without raising taxes in other ways. If someone says that is a reason to privatize Social Security, then I say pay me back all that I have been taxed since I was 15, now 60, with interest compounded, first. Just like a house loan. Of course that would bankrupt the nation, and not benefit the tiny minority of people and corporations that would benefit from privatization.

One time my little brother got stuck on one of the subways because he didn't get off fast enough and a entire group of people around 20 helped him get back to my parents from the next stop. The stereotype of people being rude and antisocial is not necessarily true.

$2.75, and it will probably be $3 in a couple years. Maybe the state shouldn’t be taking so much money from the MTA instead of just blaming it on overcrowding.

How about a clear hierarchy of authority running the transit system? Instead of running it by committee. Oh wait it's New York and all hierarchies are oppressive and worse than Satan. Good luck with your trains, because luck is all you'll be able to rely on most likely.

Lesser routes but also less rats and less unruly commuters. The transit system used to be really bad but a significant increase in budget goes a long way.
