To me in dnd when it came to the gods it was the worshippers worshipping them for evil that made them evil

So, Joe is basically into the idea of a dominatrix who might hear his safe word and say, “Nah, I don’t think so.” Got it 😜

Love ya Joe, but Tiamat was my enemy across multiple campaigns spanning 10+ years. I understand your Marc Antony/ Cleopatra relationship dynamic which is interesting. That said, given the chance, I would wipe her and all of her followers off the face of reality. Nothing personal, just business

It always comes back to DargonLance for people, by far the best of the official 'medieval fantasy' settings.

If you ask him about what he thinks about the latest options for bards, he would still end up talking about himself.

Fascinating. Also, I don't actually know much about Arkhan, and I assumed he was a 100% loyal, zealous follower of Tiamat. That extra edge, the fact that he may eventually want out, brings a whole new level to the character that I'm only just discovering. I can't wait to play in Descent, and see both more about this character and my DM's specific take on him.

The greatest character I ever played as was a loyal follower of Tiamat called Kilmash Krenkus. Over the course of a year long campaign he kept making power plays that even the DM didn’t realize until it was too late and he rose up as the head of a new cult of Tiamat, defeating her in battle and founding a nation in her honor. He then proposed to her with a legendary magic ring. Utterly flummoxed by this mortal who did the impossible, she said yes. And now I’m writing up a campaign set in that very nation a few hundred years down the line when the forces of Bahamut invade

I mean, that’s cool that Joe likes Takhisis because she’s the bad-girl kind of sexy, and because of the offer of power, but I was kinda hoping there’d be more to it than that. Y’know, like exploring what it means for Tiamat to be the goddess of greed, or how dragons occupy the role of “the final challenge” in real world mythology and psychological metaphor, and Tiamat is the supreme incarnation of dragon-ness, so you could interpret Tiamat as representing the greatest of challenges. So, y’know, that’d make for a pretty compelling villain, and most adventures are only as epic as their villains.

I wasn't sure just how Tiamat would be similar to Jehovah/Yahweh, but when he mentioned the deity treating its followers like slaves, that fit quite well.

There was a point in Dragonlance lore where Tahkisis (Tiamat) stole the world of Krynn and hid from the rest of the gods, then sent an Avatar into the world and proclaimed herself "The One True God". Lol

Funnily enough I had a thought in this regard as far as one of my own character went if they happened to have known Arkhan before he became an Oathbreaker. Specifically involving a female Half-Dragon (Black) Sorcerer/Spellblade whom was a very devout follower of Bahamut. My thought being that she might have been one of Arkhan's very first adventuring companions and the two had grown very close (either romantic or platonic), only for Arkhan to be "shattered" emotionally when she at least seemingly is killed (which I figured might have either been a factor or catalyst that led to him turning Oathbreaker), only for her to have in fact survived unbeknownst to Arkhan himself.

And then all those years later, after Arkhan had claimed the Hand of Vecna and had his adventure alongside Vox Machina, the two might meet again, with her still being as devout a follower of Bahamut as ever, but someone who still cared about Arkhan and wanted to try and "save" him from both Tiamat and from "himself". And this could lead to Arkhan either slowly starting down the path of redemption with her help....or completely turning his back on his past connection to her and trying to kill her as a follower of Tiamat confronting a follower of Bahamut (whom is Tiamat's chief enemy).
