I have a Mercedes E350 wagon, bought CPO. I used to take it to to the same dealer, Mercedes of San Diego. My experience with the Mercedes CPO program is quite good. That dealer, not so much. When coming to drop off the car for scheduled service, they would make me wait around, even when I had an appointment and showed up on time. The third time this happened, I spoke to the person setting up the appointment, I told them that I had another commitment and that I needed to drop off the car, pick up my loaner, and be out the door quickly. After 20 minutes in the waiting room, not having yet seen the service adviser, I left. This is odd because the Lexus dealer next door is owned by the same Penske group, and I know of people who rave that for routine service, they are in and out in two or three minutes!

Also, if you want another luxury car, buy a Lexus or a Toyota Land Cruiser. Then you don’t need a warranty.

Has Range Rover reliability improved any in the last 4 years? I asked a Range Rover salesman the same question the other day and he assured me Range Rover has turned it around recently. But the skeptic in me chose not to believe a car salesman. It would be nice to hear from a current 2014 thru 2018 Range Rover owner on how many times they have been left stranded by their Range Rover.

Wow. Over $21,000 in just repairs alone (not routine maintenance) in just 6 year. This speaks volumes for the Range Rover brand. This is why I will never buy one. To me, as an engineer, a major part of good engineering is to be able to engineer a complete car to have every part and component work well and work well together. Sure you can take an engine, a transmission, suspension components, cooling systems, body panels, etc. and slap them together with a fancy coat of paint and call it a car.  They all on their own can be pretty awesome but the engineering part is to make them all work together and work together reliably. I just don't see any "good" engineering with Range Rover, and a few other brands as well. As for warranties. I understand that they can be beneficial and it was for you with your Range Rover but the way I see it is as soon as you pay for one you're already in the hole for that amount. Let's say $4000. So unless you get at least $4000 in repairs you didn't get your money's worth. So in order for your $4000 to pay dividends you have to hope that your car breaks down often enough to accumulate at least $4000 in repairs. What kind of strategy is that in choosing a car? Yes, your Range Rover obviously needed it so what does that tell you about your Range Rover? The best warranty a company can offer is the one you never have to use.

When I bought my 2013 car in September 2016, Tesla refurbished the car, wrapped it in a brand-new, 4 year, 50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. They treat me like I bought it new. It has required a few warranty repairs, including two drive units, and they've been great, including giving me some pretty cool loaners, like a P100D Model X. BTW, not covering the wiper on the AMG is BS. Most manufacturer's CPO programs have lots of holes in them, as you are now learning.
