This old house should be on talk shows like this more often to promote blue collar jobs and you educate people on stuff that's out there on homes. I'm sure more than half the audience didn't know the automatic shut off existed. I like this old house. A very useful show

Sad to hear that Roger is gone from TOH but looks like the torch has been adequately passed to Jenn to inspire younger viewers to learn the trades. From the beginning of TOH in 1979 and the New Yankee Workshop years later, the wonderful collection of these down-to-earth, easygoing, outdoorsy, dependable, and successful quality contractors has always endeared me to both shows. From the first showman Bob Vila; to the snazzy, college-educated, enthusiastic one-time painter/carpenter Steve Thomas; to the current Kevin O’Connor trying to fill Steve’s shoes after he sadly left the show; to the always calming and venerable master carpenter Norm Abram; to the top-of-the-line general contractor Tom Silva; to premier landscaper Roger Cook, to the master plumber/HVAC man Richard Tretheway; and their brothers and sons who went into the family businesses – they all inspired confidence at weekly discovering/solving problems and restoring old homes, making them better than new, and with the grateful homeowners knowing that things would be done second to none! That being said, they all served as the inspiration for my wife and I to completely restore our 1923 Cal bungalow and property in San Diego to a museum-quality example of the Arts & Crafts genre. That included me rejacking the settled pier/post foundation with screw jacks and performing a complete seismic retrofit, laying and refinishing all the wood floors in the home; and my wife and I removing/disposing of the asbestos transite siding panels off of the home. Some major work but cherished accomplishments all aside from us saving major bank through the completion of those tasks.

I especially and deeply enjoyed both shows around the holidays as they seemed so warm, welcoming, homey, and comforting with me sitting back in my easy chair and watching them all excel at their crafts and trades as they laughed, traded stories, drank coffee, exchanged some holiday cheer, and worked a good physical life out in the elements as Fall’s beautiful multicolored leaves and Winter’s snowflakes began to flutter down and lent even greater authenticity to their skilled and practical outdoor existences. Hardy and skilled men they all were and are! To me, there will never be two shows that so endeared me to becoming a handyman or that inspired and taught me the skills necessary to get out in my shop and build heirloom quality furniture and jewelry boxes. So Bob, Steve, Kevin, Norm, Tom, Roger, and Richard – thanks for the many cherished times and memories. You guys were and always will be one in a million!

Bring back master carpenter Norm Abram. Tommy’s good but Norm can do all the hand carpentry bits. Where’s the electrician and painter?

                  1. Your typical Jimmy Fallon fan has probably done little if any serious home improvement project on their own

                  2. Most people who watch TOH and understand what they’re doing, and find it incredibly interesting and useful probably aren’t Fallon fans.

That cloud-based water shutoff system seems more complicated that it needs to be; I'd rather it just communicate locally.

Jimmy and his band members definitely haven't. But, maybe some of the audience member have...maybe😉😁 it is such a shame that we live in the society where we believe we don't have to learn any of these skills. But, if all of them stayed without power for a week, they would all die because they wouldn't know how to do anything. People do not realise how important is to learn practical skills in life (sorry, my English is not so good, so I don't know how to explain) even me, for example, I thought I would never need it. But my parents and grandparents taught me many great things such as taking care of farm animals, growing vegetables and fruits, building things and many other practical skills so I would be able to survive in nature without power, running water or shop food.

Roger was a huge part of the show and for me personally, had a massive impact on my life. I'm 35 years old and I now show my 2 boys how to garden and landscape, and I can honestly say its because of him. They've all had an impact on the things indo and have taught me a lot. Hope Roger finds joy in whatever he's doing now.

The funny thing is that the millennial cucktards, soy boys, and land whales in the audience have ABSOLUTELY no blue collar type skills since they were most likely raised by single moms. And the trend continues.

However, if the power is out it may not work. But again, its main design is for times when you’re not home or standing next to leaking water.
