Great now where were the teachers and tech 20 years ago? :/ Even now I doubt many will find a teacher or have parent who will let them near such nice things at age 5-15.

@James Fondren no, but would give them a way to talk to people who don't know ASL without typing on a TTS app.

if you could get the glove to know exactly where it is you could turn it into a virtual keyboard

Have Pimoroni started releasing documentation yet? It'd be great if one wasn't forced to learn how to use it through the python examples.

It might be easier and much more satisfying for kids to learn to play an instrument rather than inventing toys for them. Are there not enough toys yet ?

I'd argue that if the older instruments (than the one in the video) that you're talking about aren't toys when you hand them over to children, you're doing something wrong.

Very 'doable', if one tapped into the magnetometer to control the pitch via pointing to a compass direction, and volume with hand angle.

Somebody's working on that kind of tech for sign language. It's way more complicated than this, IIRC, because facial expressions and parts of the body other than the hands play a part. And it has to track each finger individually.

Russell Thompson, if this thing can play sound clips, that'd be totally doable. I would suggest having a gesture to wake it up / put it to sleep, though. (Or there could be a button on it somewhere, if the user has the fine motor control for that.) If it's being used as an assistive device, they'd wear it all the time, so it'd pick up a lot of everyday actions and start talking.

Better make a new "Makerphile" channel, or else you'll always have lots of undeserved thumbs down.
