Quentin Tarantino’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from the writer-director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.

"She's an incredibly deep researcher..." Google: California 60's interior design. I'm a pretty stellar researcher myself! I loved the part about the exterior paint being chosen for how it would film in black and white.

Listen to this and think about it a bit. The Hateful 8 had a great screenplay. A great plot. They consider it bad. But they gave an oscar to Ennio for a soundtrack that it is just a copy from the Thing. Dont get me wrong. Ennio is one of the greatest musicians ever lived. This film here has only great acting, cinematography and design. Nothing else. They consider it a masterpiece. My conclusion is that Quentin didnt play with the rules of the system in the Hateful . (Dont ask me what the rules are i have no idea) Something weird goes on with the awards and I hope i'm wrong with this.

Oh ye gods I hope not. Not that I think he couldn’t do it. I, I wouldn’t want him to explore that era and area. Coppola covered it... so did other people I guess. The connection and nuances would be quite. Heavy.

                                                                  • Tyler Cobb

Maybe after the victory in ww2 and the capture of defeated Hans Landa. He was a war hero but also a war criminal. So maybe he recieved a new identity as Stuntman Cliff Booth. That also explain why Cliff has the same Tenesse accent of Aldo.

The only moment that gave it a sense of space was Brad Pitt driving back to his trailer but even in that scene the camera moves too fast to see anything.
They talk about it like it had epic proportions but it was really dissapointing in that aspect.

He was looked at with respect as great director. The film was also not about Manson, there was no reason to give him a large amount of dialog. Yes it most certainly is necessary to understand a bit of history to appreciate the film. I mean, if you don't know about the Manson killings I don't know what to say.

                                                                                • VeganRevolution

Roman Polanski is idolised yet in reality he is a pedophile fugitive. I find Manson's real life dialogue in interviews more captivating than anything Tarantino wrote in this film. I loved the music and listened to the soundtrack (which is great) a lot before watching the film - so maybe I spoiled it for myself first by having individual elements. For me though - there was no suspense or moments where I am fully involved - to me when the gimp appears in pulp fiction for the first time I was there - watching Bruce Willis decide not to leave - this film never had a moment like that. And I found for all the people who didn't know the history of the events at all - it just confused them and they had no interest to find out what really happened as a result of this movie.
The only bit I really remember enjoying was the joke when it cut back to brad pitt and it had been an extended flashback - not seen that done before.

@VeganRevolution I loved the main characters, and the script. The film has dozens of lines you keep remembering long after you leave the theater. And of course, I loved the fact that it is an uplifting film. I'm also a person who grew up in that period so the music was super relevant to me. Ultimately, Leonardo's character is just hysterical to me as well.

The fact that they built these sets to bring 1960s Hollywood boulevard back to life is a feat in itself. No CGI whatsoever was used for these sets. That's incredible.

A lot of attention and care to detail in this movie. They also used miniatures for the Pan-Am airplane shots and for the Van Nuys Drive-In.
