  • We did a batch of ice cream sandwiches awhile back in our Harvest Right home Freeze Dryer. The brand we used was "First Street".

We had a guest in the building that day and he tried out the sandwichs as well. For some reason we thought the flavor of the cookie kind of drowned out the ice cream. But all in all, we were happy with the results.

Joe was to have had shrimp salad with us that day but he needed to run around and get parts for our sprinkler system and then forgot about lunch. Guess the Ice Cream filled him up.

my small HR unit will be delivered this Friday and I would like to know if my already frozen food (meat, vegetables and Ice cream) can be Freeze dried when still frozen?

Absolutely! The big thing is to try to keep food under 3/4" thick - 1/2" if at all possible. Not to worry though. You can always use the custom setting and increase final dry time when you start the batch. For ice-cream, you will want to also increase the freeze time. Take a look at the table in your manual and it will say 12 hours freeze and 12 hours dry for ice-cream sandwiches. If you mix items (like beef, veggies and icecream) use the highest settings for any single item. You can never over freeze, or over dry anything. Blueberries are the longest of anything you will ever do (and Pineapple). Break the skin on the blueberries or cut them in half. Pineapple, because of the sugar content takes a long time too. The extra freeze time is needed to keep it from shrinking. It needs to be REALLY cold (possible with extended freeze time). Have fun!

Could be 2 things. Either lots of "high fructose corn sugar" or not long enough freeze time. For ice cream you need a custom 12 hour freeze cycle.

Love the videos! Can pancake batter be freeze dried? Or even cake mix batter?

I love the videos but I want to see how you begin the freezing, the prepping and the removal of such items.

Yeah, John did not look like he was enjoying the Twinkie. Can those be reconstituted?
I have another question. One of my favorite foods (as the lazy American that I am) is Totino' pizza rolls. Considering that they are cooked from a frozen state, how could you freeze dry and reconstitute those? Could you get it to it's intended crispy outside/ boiling-hot-lava inside state? I've actually heard of people snacking on them in a frozen state so maybe they would be good straight out of the Harvest Right.
Love the videos, you guys! I'll probably be hitting up your website soon assuming you can ship APO.
