Click clack I was taken aback. Wonderin’ ‘bout those switches of light, yeah.
Let’s find out what the point is of all that clacking, shall we?

Ahh I spotted a nice soldering iron on your shelf-background, it's a Weller!
2:04 The conjoined twins were traumatised by their visit to Robot Disney World...
1:55 I accidentally shocked myself enough that I felt that...
There is some level of Childish tendencies. "(Warning)" Please don't do this. I had my Auto play on and I decided to listen to this guy out.
This guy is way to excited to Plug and Unplug. as you see in this Diagram (http://prntscr.com/q7foi1)
I love my clicky blue cherry switch keyboard, but I'm switching to a quieter brown cherry soon in favor of having a quieter keyboard that still has that satisfying tactile clicky feeling.
So that's why lightswitches buzz when held at midpoint.
Ooooooooh, electric sparks...
came for clicking noises, stayed for accidental lessons in arc welding
UK Viewer here, how come the US plug sockets don't have switches on them?
Those sparks doesnt appear in european outlets
4:33 *_"Nothing is a perfect insulator"_*
Actually, if you want to get REALLY technical, "Nothing" (as in, empty space) isn't a perfect insulator either.
I do silent switching intentionally sometimes to not wake people up in the room
Some older trams like Czechoslovakian Tatra T3 / T3SU(CS) have line contactor, that makes noticeable clack sound when turning on and even louder when breaking higher current (60 - 540A (750 A max when overcurrent trips contactor instantly) at 600 V DC). Newer trams are fully solid state but still have line contactor as backup beacuse lowering pantograph under overcurrent would cause huge electric arc
Well its 4:40 in tge morning and i learned something new and totally usless to me lmao
9:49 when I was 6 Years old, I used to do that and somehow the damn thing short circuited and my house's main room was lit on fire
14:42 - this reminds me of when I am setting up mics for my drumkit and other equipment for my band! lol
1 min in and i am already smile watching your video. thanks
why the fuck did i get entertained by a dude explaining switches
*this video clicks with me.*
Hah! I still have an ancient light switch that's totally silent! It has a sealed mercury tilt switch inside. Ooooo..... DEADLY!!! Not. But I can see why they stopped making these.
Bet it was expensive in it's day.
A switch is a person who likes... no.
if you poke a light switch instead of smacking the wall as hard as you can you're living life wrong
brains are funny things... i was rewatching this and during the "ooh a spark" portion I faintly smelled ozone each time... like happened with my old ionizer that gave off visible sparks if touched
so my brain went "that bright thing makes this smell, so let's pretend we smell that"
It stopped when you stopped playing with the plug.
"Why be so clicky-clacky all the time?"
God damnit when I was a kid I "always" tried to use switches applying force as slow as possible... If only I had known...
So to make sure that your switches continue to function normally, you need to use them normally.
There are clicks, and there are *CLICKS* . I find it annoying when the click is too loud. Call me sensitive. I've been called worse. :-)
I’m now terrified of America’s outlets, I’ll stay in the uk thanks
Also when you break of an inductive load the voltage across will rise momentarily and the arch jump more easily.
The voltage across an inductor follows this equation v=L * di/dt which shows that the current through cant change instantaneously and therefore will compensate with higher voltage because of the large di/dt
wait... dont they switch polarity every 60hz?
"oscillations of alternating current (AC) in an electric power grid transmitted from a power .... As the 20th century continued, more power was produced at 60 Hz (North America)"... not 100-120. you were talking about 100-120volts...
Julio Romeresto thanks for explaining.
On a 60Hz sine wave in one cycle it hits 0 twice before starting another cycle so his reversing 120 times per second is right
I never wondered why they did that but now I just wanna know why.
Clicks are mostly relaxing to me
So, I have some really crappy worn out rocker-style switches in my walls, are these a fire hazard if they aren't very clicky anymore!?
Love the old skool Ektachrome T-shirt in this digital world. ;)
They should make all switches wireless, that way they wouldn't have to run thick mains wires to every device from the switch. Hmmm...
11:55 oops I've slowly moved the switch like that and I can hear cracking sounds coming from inside the switch
Wow, this was brilliant! Answered so many questions I had... and ones I didn't even know I had yet!
Tq, now i understand why my steaker got burn :|
The arch is serious problem :|
To bad you can't get truly silant Mercury switches anymore
Awesome. Incidentally, debouncing is a PIA.
5:24 Wrong information... It's not "120 times a second" in the US we operate @ 60 Hz and that's 120 volts @ 60 Hz = 60 times a second. As the sine wave passes 0 60 times.
I have a clicky house with a clicky switch
Clicky is the sound of all that I hear
Clicky are the streets and all the trees are too
I have a girlfriend and she is so clicky
Clicky are the people here that walk around
Clicky like my Corvette, it's in and outside
Clicky are the words I say and what I think
Clicky are the feelings that live inside me
Speaking of power lines, do you know what the orange balls sometimes hanging off of power lines do? Are they put there so that the lines don't constructively interfere with themselves and shake themselves loose?
If only there was an easily searchable network of computers that contain the world's information. Oh wait. Google says they were put there so that airplanes don't run in to them. Insiders call them marker balls. Lame.
My laptop start button dosent flick, will it fry itself?
You look like Robbie Rotten if he didn't dress like he was in a cartoon.
half a megasub nice
5:25 in the US it crosses the zero. 60 times every Second the voltage is 120
12:05 ty I think that's what's wrong with our basement light switch
You should do an episode on the Mac keyboard that doesn’t move, but uses the Tactile Engine to trick people into thinking it’s clicking!
