I dislike the interviewer's skill- I endured teh whole thing beacuse the interviewee is interesting- but the first kept missing the point on everything he was talking about- He didn't seem to grasp that he was talking about the business model, rather than the technology itself.

10 or so years ago, in the early days of Facebook, I called a buddy of mine from high school (in the Late 70s)and his wife picked up, and she was crying. I asked what was
wrong, and she was sitting in front of her home PC, and she had joined Facebook earlier in the week. She told me she had gotten into a horrible fight with a woman on FB in
OREGON! I didn't know yet, what this FB even was, and I tried to tell Mary that some Woman clear across the country, didn't matter, and she started babbling about FB and "likes" etc...

I think Mary is still out there, living on FB, but when she told me about the amount of time she was spending on FB, I Decided right There, I would never get FB, and I'm proud to say, that l have NEVER EVER DOWNLOADED FB AND I DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE CRINGE WHEN I TELL THEM I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FB PAGE OR WALL
OR WHATEVER, AND I FEEL.... LIKE I'VE MISSED
              N. O. T. H. I. N. G.!!!

I NEVER DID TALK TO BRAD THAT DAY!

Let's be real. Only ugly people get depressed from social media. If you're attractive you got nothing to worry about and the dopamine rush of getting validation is endless.

Fb wanted an official picture of me which cheeses me off they blocked me until I either sent picture or just deleted my fb .for few weeks i was like why not give my picture .then thought nope made a fake account with fake picture which i hardly use but all previous friends popped up linked anyone on my phone to my account kept popping up you may know so and so . I got admit not using fb gave me much more free time .and been an older gentleman ok ok (old fart ) i found it difficult at first to get on with smart phone without fb other forms of chat online . Plus side was my battery lasted much longer the modern life for you younger folks are becoming like big brother is watching you now .no escaping it unless theys complete change of propective from the public. Google ,fb,paltalk, snapchat and whatever else is out there is monitored by not just business people looking to take your money but governmental departments and the likes . It's TRUE what he says ruining peoples lives luckily I'm thick skinned 🙄😬

Been about a month since I deleted Facebook.

Rather liberating to not keep staring at my phone like I was and it was so beneficial to my thought processes to not be constantly exposed to propaganda, opinions or infinite idiots announcing what they had for dinner and whining constantly.

                                    Highly recommend others try it

I no longer have a Twitter account, a Facebook account or any other anti-social networking accounts. I've even got rid of my cell phone. And guess what? Life's great again! No stress, no anxiety, not being contactable 24/7 other than when it's convenient... TO ME. No bitching, no name-calling, no hypocrisy, no lies, no fake news, the list of positives feels virtually endless. Yet I can still check my email, do my online shopping, contact anyone I need or want to, play my computer games and so on. It's truly liberating.*

                                              Everyone has 2 sides:
A selfish side and an unselfish side.
You ARE addicted to "feeding" one of these sides more than the other.

The only way to remedy this (you have to actually WANT to change), is to literally starve off (quit feeding) the side of yourself that you are addicted to. If you want to be "on the good team" in other words, YOU MUST STARVE OFF, QUIT FEEDING, AND LET YOUR SELFISH SIDE DIE.

The easiest first step is to consciously pay attention to your thoughts. Be mindful, not mindless. Reverse the saying that you have been taught: "1st you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others." This saying, practically speaking, DOESN'T WORK.
Instead, replace it with this saying:
"If we would all just take care of OTHERS FIRST, we would all be taken care of."

                                              Put this into practice daily.
                                              Just focus on today.
"I'm going to be completely unselfish...just for today."

It will be difficult, especially at first, but it will get easier in time.

P.S. - Please do not "take my word for it". Think about this & contemplate it for yourself. Come to your own conclusion about whether there's any truth to what I'm saying or not.

Social media is not ruining your life if you use it as a tool to network. Do not expect to find friends for life on there, limit the number of "friends", avoid hate groups, gossip and people who want to bore you with their dreary lives. Keep your private life private. In absence of these checks and balances, yes it can be a menace.

It would be simple! Just require encryption on the client device so that any data stored on the server will only ever have access to encrypted nonsense, along with a zero-trust handshake to ensure no funny busy on the server's side, which would require an open source implementation to have public auditing feasible.

It's not that they don't know all this, there were sophisticated schemes just like this dominating the market! In fact it was deliberately designed to spy on you, the initial developer inclination would be to encrypt user-data as a standard _best practice_. You have to be worried about business concerns, not development concerns to design it the way they did and throw away state of the art technology for garbage like `php`. And don't get me wrong, I'm glad that millions of everyday people make billions with `php` based websites of their own. But they're not the ones benefiting from the way these systems, including the one this is hosted on, is designed.

A _safer_ way for both the public and business interests to conduct business, and it is most certainly in private. It's only short term gains, not long term investment, that fuels this entire market. Yes humanity could build better systems, but the reality so far is that we don't seem to want them enough to fund development.

I thought I would suffer withdrawal but instead I felt free. I remember life before social media..it was so much better. I no longer care what someone I sat next to in grade 3 became/looks like etc. there is natural attrition in life..people move in & out of our lives - that is meant to be. I feel sorry that the youth generation are growing up online...society is suffering because of social media. If you think you’ll be forgotten if you don’t have fb, you are wrong. People find other ways to contact you. In fact you’ll find people enjoy your company more & that is because you are a clean slate..,they have so much to tell you.

It's a successful strategy: like him or hate him, you have to admit that he never could have gotten elected without that platform. I would put forth the case that it is the Legacy Media that has lost its collective mind, what with their daily comparisons of Trump to Hitler. And why must every news story must eventually circle back to Trump? The Media complains ceaselessly about Trump, yet it can't shut up about him, forever keeping him in the news cycle.
