  • I can't believe the little Bear pup contracted Lyme Disease. These things do happen especially in an area where Lyme is so prevalent like the Northeast. This video tells the story of Bear's Lyme diagnosis as well as how I went about gathering information and treating him. Please know that I am NOT a vet and I am NOT giving you advice on how to treat your pet. I also know that many of you will ask: Bear is a Newfoundland pupper also known as a Newfie or Newf!

STAY TUNED for Mail-Time @ the end (and my injury).

I live in northern Canada and anyone else who has actually seen a bear would probably agree how accurate that dogs name is lol.

My dog got Lyme diseases with no symptoms ether. I treated it right away with doxycycline for 30 days and I left it at that. I did not want to wait for symptoms because or weak my dogs immune system seems to be.

Lyme disease in dogs is super scary. Our dog growing up got it, and earlier in the day he was a little stiff (not abnormal, he was around 8 years old at the time), but that afternoon he literally couldn’t stand up at all. Like he’d struggle, but then his legs would just give out. We rushed him to the animal hospital right away, and they treated him for Lyme disease

I'm really confused about Lyme in humans and pets and why it is so controversial. It's a disease. It demands treatment. What is controversial about that?
If it was malaria, it would be treated without controversy. I just dont get it 😕 Can anyone please tell me what I'm missing?

I tested positive for lymes disease, Didn't get the usual symptoms, I didn't even know I had it. The doctor basically said I was infected at some point and gave me antibiotics. To this day I still haven't taken them. A lot of people say that if you've had for a long time, antibiotics are less effective.

As an equine vet in the NE, everyone and their brother wants us to test and treat their horses because they (as humans) and their dogs have been symptomatic and have been treated for Lyme. All the testing we have (including the ELISA snap test that your pup likely had) simply indicate exposure but not disease. Your call to not treat an asymptomatic animal was the correct one! I have to scream this from the rooftops when clients ask for testing in their clinically-normal animals (which in and of itself is contraindicated).

In retrospect maybe that wasn't a good thing but it turned pit ok.
