Adam Richman Gets a Crash Course in Japanese Fried Food | Gochi Gang

  • Published: 03 December 2019
  • From a delicately battered piece of tempura to a crispy slab of tonkatsu, Japan is a wonderland when it comes to fried food. In this episode of Gochi Gang, Reina sets out to explore the heart of Japanese fried fare—and there's no better companion than former Man v. Food star Adam Richman. Between bites of pork cutlet, Adam and Reina discuss everything from Japanese puns and good-luck rituals to Adam's own routine before heading into food competitions. But before Reina fills up on tonkatsu, she's heading to Secchu Yokota for an unforgettable tempura experience with chef Atsushi Yokota. From the origins of batter frying in Japan, to the lesser-known tradition of eating KFC on Christmas, Reina is about to embark on the ultimate Japanese fried food adventure.

That's a technique I've mastered with hot pockets, it's better to take them out slightly early so you can eat them that day. Letting them cook for a few seconds longer apparently starts a nuclear fission reaction inside of them, and they stay perpetually too hot to eat.

I had tempura scallops in Kyoto on 2017. It was probably the best thing I've ever eaten in my life! There's some considerable competition for that accolade from the rest of that trip alone, but the tempura scallop wins the prise.

As someone who shoots food shows for TV for a living I’d say you really need to work on these food beauty shots. They are to loose! Get in there zoom in and use slow mo for close up cooking shots. Food beauty’s are about the food not the plate I don’t need to see the whole plate I need to see the food and it needs to look good I’m seeing way to much table.

Usually it will be cover with a lit as the final process; however, the one I haven't done that, and the egg was crack along the side of the Katsu (Pork Cutlet). Not only the egg was cook as silky smooth, but the Katsu have remains crispy outside! And the extra 'point' to that was the Pork chop is an inch thick! Which add the skill of chef must able to execute the perfect timing.
