  • Every car company should be making an off-roader SUV -- and today I'm going to explain why all automakers should be offering off-road SUVs and trucks. I'm also going to explain why I'm so incredulous that so many brands don't have off-roader SUVs yet.

Sorry I havent check other comments if someone else already said this and this is actually my first...(like the vids keep it up! Telse truck sucks! Lol sad) but umm BOLLINGER B1 & B2...??? What's your take on these two looking bad boys! I'd take either of these actual kinda badass looking truck/suv or the new Ford/Rivian R1T before whatever hell that thing Telsa is actually claiming they created. Lmk thanks!

Only idiots should make off road SUV's. These vehicles get the worst gas mileage of any car group. Idiots who buy G500's but then can only take take them where a Civic has been before are... idiots... and irresponsible. We all have to become more concious of global warming. Going to pick up the kids from soccer in a 10 mpg vehicle is irresponsible!
Doug, YOU have to give a lot more thought to the mpg's of your vehicles, and the vehicles you review.
Car companies that do not make investment in off roading are probably analyzing the market more realistically because when gas prices will shoot up off roaders will crush.

I just watched Doug's videos on Tesla Cybertruck. There Doug bashed Tesla for making a Ford Raptor competitor, and now I am looking at this video (which is 4 months prior) and like ... you praise the exact idea Tesla implement!

I hate to say it but the Toyota approach to off-roaders just kinda gets the job done: no the tech isn’t the finest, but every surface is durable, abusable and functional, a lot of the American offerings are too, and in the segment all are reliable: automakers need to aim for that sweet spot of life-style-ish and burly-durable and, well, that would be the ideal modern off-roader

Dodge has the power wagon, and with solid axles and locking diffs factory will off-road better than a raptor, unless your pre-running

The ram trx is coming in 2020 or 2021. Ram has the powerwagon which is actually really close to the raptor, but is a much larger vehicle. Jeep now has the gladiator and they are bringing back the wagoneer as a large offroad SUV to fill out the jeep lineup. Chevy has the colorado zr2 and GMC has their new AT4 lineup, which is on all their pickups (even the hd's) the new acadia and likely we will see an AT4 yukon either for 2020 or 2021

Land rover as a brand is the only real european offroader, the gwagen does well, and ironically one of the better european offroaders is a fucking RR cullinan

Toyota is adding the sequoia and tundra to the trd pro offroad lineup and nissan has their pro 4x pickups and rock creek edition pathfinders. Subaru wagons and crossovers are doing well, and the people who really need an offroad trim to round out their lineup are kia with the telluride.

Wtf lol. "SUV's" were born of people wanting the high driving position and 'toughness' of proper four wheel drives but with more 'car-like' handling and features... So manufacturers invented "SUV's" but went too far and made them have all the suckfullness of a 4x4 with all the suckfullness of a car, instead of being the best of both worlds.

This appears to be a welcome return to normal programming.

Dodge and Chevy do make off road oriented cars to rival the raptor, the full size power wagon and the midsize ram rebel, then from Chevy the zr2 Colorado.

BMW has no pedigree on SUV's, they need to have the history. Chevy does, but instead they think about weather they can get away with making a cheap crappy crossover in Mexico.

Typical gm, great idea but poorly executed. They easley could have built the Blazer off the Colorado chassis. Unfortunately Honda is following the same footsteps as the American car companies but Honda never reputation for 4x4 vehicles like Toyota.
As for Nissan, they should have held on to the Xterra a bit longer. If they held on and weather out the gas prices at the time it got discontinued, the Xterra sales would have gone up along side with the 4 Runner. Thats something Nissan desperately needs right now.

Why isn't BMW making off roader version of SUV??? Because they know their vehicle hardly lasts three years and that is driving it on smooth tarmac. So no in their right mind would buy an unreliable BMW for off-roading to remote areas in their country.

It's just a metamorphasized station wagon trend. SWs were really popular in their day until they became "uncool." The perception of coolness in SUV/crossovers appeals to the vanity of people, but the utility appeals to the same practical side that station wagons did (that rear cargo area = very practical). And, most people just use their SUV/crossovers as station wagons anyways. That's my theory anyways.
